Sunday Evening Vespers at St. Mary of Redford
Join us every Sunday at 5:00 PM for Vespers & Benediction, followed by a potluck in the Fellowship Room. Please bring a dish to share!
What is Vespers?
Vespers is the evening prayer of the Church, part of the Liturgy of the Hours (also called the Divine Office), the official daily prayer of the Church. During Vespers and all the other Hours, different psalms, hymns, and prayers are sung and prayed.
How can I participate?
Booklets containing the texts of the service will be provided.
How long is the service?
It typically runs 45-50 minutes.
This is a wonderful way to spend extra time with Our Lord on His day—joining in the prayer of the universal Church and ending Sunday in thanksgiving. Please remember that going to Vespers does not replace the obligation to attend Sunday Mass, but it is a beautiful and highly recommended devotion.
We are especially grateful to Father Deacon Nicholas Zawaski of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church, who will be leading the service.
A freewill offering will be taken to contribute to the restoration of our Casavant pipe organ, which still has much of its original, worn-out parts from the 1960s.
